Style Guide to the Old Money Aesthetic for Her
Written by Amiya B
Before we bid adieu to what has been a great year for fashion, we wanted to look back at the trends that really took over the industry in 2023. We’ve had some great trends to look back on this year, but some stand out. Structured clothing and bold sheers had their moment, not to forget burgundy and silver being the it colours of the year. Bows have been in the style spotlight all year and are now sneaking their way onto our trees for the ultimate coquette Christmas. However, our favourite women’s fashion trend of the year has to be the old money aesthetic.
What is the old money aesthetic?
To put it simply, the old money aesthetic boasts quiet luxury. It’s not bright hues and bold structures but rather subtle opulence that brings this trend to life. Think Lady Diana, Sofia Richie Grainge and Kate Middleton. Not to forget Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham also being a great source of inspiration for this trend. You won’t find futuristic silhouettes and youthful colour combinations in this trend. But you will find neutral tones and clean cuts resulting in chic elegance.
How to achieve the old money look?
Fashion is purely subjective and there can be plenty of different takes on the old money aesthetic. However, if we were to compile a collection of categories that would be worth looking into as a blueprint for the trend, this would be it. Look for classic silhouettes in neutral colours such as whites, creams and beiges. Most old money ‘fits look extremely put together and an easy way to accomplish this is to opt for a monochromatic ensemble. If you want to mix colours, try and stay within the neutral shade range.
Keep an eye out for well-tailored apparel. Straight-leg pants, simple blazers, minimalistic co-ords and dresses are all old money coded. Vintage clothing is also a huge part of this aesthetic, from tweed jackets to mini handbags. Grab a pair of ballet flats, kitten heels or white sneakers to complete the outfit. When it comes to finishing touches, keep your accessories light and to a minimum for the ultimate quiet luxe look.

Maybe this aesthetic is not your usual style or maybe you’re not ready to dive into the deep end of old money fashion. However, if one of your fashion resolutions is to step out of your comfort zone and step into fabulous new clothes, we recommend incorporating pieces that represent the old money aesthetic into your looks. And this does not have to be solely linked to this particular trend. We want to look and feel our best this 2024, and a little fashion experimentation never hurt anybody.
