Wardrobe Intro: How to Detox Your Wardrobe

IMG_8027.JPG

In this post we are going to be discussing the easy 5 steps to follow when detoxing your wardrobe. We will explain to you why it is key you follow the 5 step rule but also why detox’s need to be done and you will find out that it may be something you enjoy every now and again.

With that being said, we understand that sometimes it can be quite tedious due to how much you may have to get through; but also hard because it is hard to let go of those items you know longer need or aren’t using or wearing for that matter but it does need to be done. This is why we have created this post to make it a tad easier for you.

We hope you will find this information useful and enjoy the read - Happy Detoxing.

  1. How often should I detox my wardrobe?

We advice that you look at detoxing your wardrobe every quarterly (if you aren’t a huge shopper, we would recommend twice a year) and this all depends on how much shopping you do in total per year or per quarter. As individuals we always feel the need to purchase a lot of items either similar or same to some that we already have, and therefore end up piling up these items; in order to have something “new” and freshen up the wardrobe. It is very important we get rid of items that we no longer wear or use to either 1) free space 2) refresh our stylistic ideas.

  2. What should I bare in mind when detoxing my wardrobe?

The following are the questions you should always ask yourself and to bare in mind when detoxing your wardrobe is: 1) Do I still need this item/clothing? 2) If I keep this item, will I still use it/them? 3) What are the best ways I could style/restyle this item/clothing? 4) Is this a classic or momentarily item/clothing? If you find yourself saying “NO” to most of these questions then you know it means you need to get rid of that item(s). Above all, do not think you have to complete the detoxing journey in one day, this can be done in sections at a time over several days.

  3. How do I differentiate my piles?

When detoxing your wardrobe, you should always split your piles in to three categories; Yes pile, No pile and the Maybe pile. The maybe pile is key because, whilst you are going through your “yes” and “no” piles you will find a definitive answer from your maybe pile, when you finally start putting the yes pile back into your wardrobe. Always start with items you know that you definitely want to keep and don’t not want to keep. You would normally know between the two because every time you walk into your wardrobe, you have that voice in your head telling you “I need to get rid of this…” and you have not had the chance to do so as of yet.

  4. How to set YOUR desired outcome?

We suggest to make it a goal of the amount of clothing/items you would like to get rid every quarter. Yes it is true that sometimes you may find that you would will not do as much shopping during the first or last six months of the year, therefore will need to adjust the goal or outcome. If you consider yourself to be a heavy shopper, we would suggest having the “one in, one out” rule - we know this can be hard for some, but try to stick to your goals as this will make it so much easier for each detox session. Always remember it does not need to be completed in ONE day.

  5. What next - what do I do with those valuable items?

After following the 4 steps you pretty much get to the end and find yourself wondering how best to get rid of those items. With that being said, not all items are invaluable, some are great to take to the charity shop (always a great idea to give to those less fortunate than ourselves), and we can help you further. Perhaps you would like to get your moneys worth but do not have time to do this, so how would you go about doing that you may ask? To find out more as to how we can help you get rid of those valuable items you can contact us directly via email.
